I run regular courses at Calderdale Adult Learning in Halifax. Courses are hands on and you will have an opportunity to search for your own ancestors and fill out your own family tree as you go. All courses are run by a professional genealogist and family historian.
The next courses are:
- Family history advanced is for anyone who has been on the beginners’ and improvers’ courses or has reached that level through their own research. The course will cover Catholic and Non-conformist Protestant baptisms/births, marriages and deaths/burials; crime and punishment; Poor Law and settlement which can help find ancestors who moved about and education records. We will also look at how to get the best from libraries and archives in your family history research and some more unusual places to find information about your ancestors. The course will be practical and there will be an opportunity to look for records using online websites though not all of the records we will be looking at are online. For more information about the course, see Calderdale Adult Learning
- Writing your family history. This course is for anyone who has already researched their family history and would like to write it up either for family or for publication. It will cover how to decide on the format of your family history, who the audience is, how to structure it, how to make it readable and accessible and how to publish or share it. You will have the opportunity to try out some practical exercises. This is a Saturday course on 16 May. For more information about the course see Calderdale Adult Learning.
