I run regular courses at Calderdale Adult Learning in Halifax. Courses are hands on and you will have an opportunity to search for your own ancestors and fill out your own family tree as you go. All courses are run by a professional genealogist and family historian.
The next courses are:
- Family history improvers which is for anyone who has already got the basics of their family tree using birth, marriage and death certificates and census records. The course looks at records to take the family back before 1837 and also to fill out information about the family. It will cover parish registers of baptism, marriage and burial, military records, wills and other records. The course runs for 6 weeks on Friday mornings starting on 10 January. For more information about the course, see Calderdale Adult Learning.
- Getting the most from genealogy databases. This workshop is a hands-on course where you will learn how to create and amend family trees on Ancestry and learn how to use and evaluate the various records. You will learn tips and techniques for searching Ancestry effectively. It will also cover FamilySearch and other genealogy databases. This is a one day course on Saturday 8 February. For more information about the course see Calderdale Adult Learning.
- Writing your family history. This course is for anyone who has already researched their family history and would like to write it up either for family or for publication. It will cover how to decide on the format of your family history, who the audience is, how to structure it, how to make it readable and accessible and how to publish or share it. You will have the opportunity to try out some practical exercises. This is a Saturday course on 16 May. For more information about the course see Calderdale Adult Learning.
